Red Dawn and American Imperialism – (NDAA S. 1867)

Next time you hear someone wondering why the United States’ status in the world has become so greatly diminished or why America has become a target for terrorism, consider asking them if they’ve seen the movie Red Dawn.  In Red Dawn, the United States is invaded by the Soviet Union and a small band of freedom fighters (The Wolverines) fights against their imperial rule.

Why is is that when we watch movies like Red Dawn, Star Wars, or Avatar, we are repulsed by the concept of imperialism yet we complacently go along with our country’s unsatiable quest for empire?

The idea of “live and let live” still runs strongly through the veins of most Americans.  We still value freedom and liberty but we allow our government to pursue overseas “assets”, build bases, and subjugate populations around the globe.  We have been tricked into thinking that these interventions are for their own good.  They tell us that they need to topple a despotic dictator, create democratic governments, pave the way for free markets, or fight terrorism before it hits our shores.  The reality is much different.  The reality is an unfettered quest for power and control by men and women whose only aim is to further their domination of others.

The recently proposed National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), proposed by Senators Carl Levin of Michigan (202 – 224 – 6221) and John McCain of Arizona (202 – 224 – 2235), would allow the U.S. Military to detain Americans without trial anywhere in the world.  Senator Mark Udall of Colorado (202 – 224 – 5941) has proposed an ammendment that would remove the portions of this bill that deal with indefinite detention.

Please consider calling these senators as well as your own senator to express opposition to this bill or to thank them for opposing it.

Lawful orders, soldiers, and brutal police actions

November 23, 2011

I’ve never been a police officer, but I am a veteran.  From the minute I arrived at MEPS (Military Entry Processing Station) to the time I signed my DD214 (discharge papers), I was taught to follow orders … but not just any orders … lawful orders and lawful orders ONLY!   The UCMJ states … “Any [...]

Baby Boomers, please step aside … You’ve done enough already

November 22, 2011

If the generation that fought and won World War II was considered “The Greatest Generation”, would it be out of line to consider the baby boomer generation “The Worst Generation”?  The Greatest Generation was born into the poverty of the great depression but ushered in the most prosperous decades that this country has known.  The [...]

Krugman, Keynsian Economics, and lastly … Occupy Wall Street

October 7, 2011

I used to agree with the whole Keynsian Economics thing because it sort of made sense and well, it sort of worked in the past right?  Great depression … WWII?  They theory in short is that governments need to spend their way out of economic downturns to make up for the lack of spending in [...]

Regulators bowed to pressure from banks? … Say it ain’t so!

October 6, 2011

Wow.  I was absolutely shocked this morning while checking finance.yahoo.com (to check on the latest carnage on the markets) to find out that FEDERAL REGULATORS BOWED TO PRESSURE FROM BANKS!  Yeah, I sat there with my coffee stunned that our upright and true government would ever stoop to such low tactics … and that our [...]

Extreme over-analysis of Occupy Wall Street – it’s not a protest … it’s a revolution!

October 5, 2011

Yes, it will surely make you seem educated, and yeah, it definitely gives you a good excuse to not join the protests, but “conversation” about the Occupy Wall Street protesters not having a “unified message” MISSES THE POINT SO ENTIRELY that it sort of makes me sick to my stomach.  Why?  Because saying that IMPLIES [...]

Ditch Bank of America? Add Citibank to the list!

October 5, 2011

Apparently all this talk of “collusion” between our big banks turns out to be spot on.  It seems like just last week that Bank of America decided to charge 5 bucks per month for their checking accounts.  Now Citibank comes out with a letter to their customers informing them of … surprise, surprise … we’ve [...]
